VM Recovery Manager requires the deployment of an AIX LPAR to monitor and enable HA or DR operations of a PowerVM virtualized environment. This LPAR is called a KSYS controller, runs the VMRM code, and is configured to run in either a “HA”, “HADR”, “HADRHA” or “DR Only” modes. A base deployment will typically include a single KSYS management LPAR, however, an administrator may want to define a redundant KSYS controller to provide additional resiliency to their environment. Older versions of the product provided KSYS HA redundancy by integrating with the PowerHA SystemMirror software and pairing KSYS LPARs via a configuration wizard. This video goes over the new replacement mechanism that pairs up KSYS LPARs by leveraging the RSCT framework and no longer requires the use of the PowerHA cluster software. It also reviews two different UI server deployment options along with considerations for how to retain a usable UI server in a redundant-KSYS configuration.
Note:
Although this is demonstrated for a VMRM for HA installation the same HA KSYS feature can be used for multiple KSYS controllers in a VMRM for DR configuration.
