This is a live demonstration of a Hybrid DR deployment of an Oracle database running on AIX that uses raw logical volumes with Oracle ASM (Automatic Storage Management). The database is replicated asynchronously with AIX GLVM (Geographic Logical Volume Manager) IP replication from an on-prem instance in Montpellier, France over to an IBM Power Virtual Server datacenter in Dallas, Texas. A PowerHA SystemMirror Enterprise Edition cluster is controlling the GLVM relationships and providing automatic failover capabilities of the environment between the sites. The session outlines the configuration details of the cluster, the scripts managing the Oracle ASM (Automatic Storage Management) device group management and illustrates an application with Oracle database using a Swingbench workload. We demonstrate the impact to the Transactions Per Second (TPS) due to improper tuning of available tuning parameters and highlight some of the lessons learned in our testing. Test scenarios include a Planned Resource Group move between the sites and an unplanned move triggered via a hard reset of the environment to demonstrate how quickly the cluster will react to an unforeseen failure.
