When combining data
from different sources you may find data exists at different grains. For
example, sales happen on a specific day (day grain) and sales targets are set
by month (month grain). When you want to compare sales to target side by side
you need to ensure the different grains roll up correctly. Knowing how to do
this will result in accurate results by avoiding double counting. Using the
Coffee sales and marketing data module as starting point, a Dates – Sales
Targets relationship was added to enable having sales and sales targets in
the same list report and demonstrate how double counting can occur. This
video was recorded using Cognos Analytics 11.2.2.
