Computer Aids Highway Safety (1962)

IBM has been involved in monitoring and analyzing traffic patterns to improve public safety since at least the 1930s. Those capabilities expanded with the introduction of electronic data processing. Utilizing information fed into a 1401 computer, the U.S. Department of Commerce partnered with IBM in 1962 to prevent scofflaw drivers from evading the law.
