Scientists
at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole, MA, are using a
seagoing computer to speed the process of finding out what lies beneath the
bottom of the ocean. The Research Vessel
CHAIN has an IBM 1710 Process Control System located on the main desk. Information regarding the ship speed, course,
and ocean depth is fed to the computer.
Gravity readings are also transmitted to the system.
