Wienerberger takes smart housing concepts a step further with the e4 house: an Arup designed housing concept with preconfigured supply chain including sensor technology and Building Information Model (BIM) in addition to the more traditional building products. IBM is helping Wienerberger integrate the digital components of the house and provides the smart technology to complement the e4 principles (economy, energy, environment and emotion). This is just the start of the collaboration between Wienerberger and IBM and where we could take it next would be to set up cognitive systems using the Watson services on Bluemix. So rather than switching lights on and off or turning the boiler on and off you can actually use voice commands. Also, the house can learn your usage habits.
