The Harry Butler Institute, Murdoch University aims to find innovative solutions to biosecurity issues. The institute, named after Australian naturalist Dr Harry Butler, is part of the environmental security management for Barrow Island, a nature reserve. It used IBM PowerAI Vision for image recognition to test images of suspected biosecurity threat species thereby reducing identification efforts from several days to seconds. “IBM’s PowerAI Vision software is really easy use and within a few months we were able to get 98% confidence with our assessments,” explains Andre deSouza, Institute Business Manager, Harry Butler Institute.
